AACPS Volunteer Requirements

ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST HAVE A CURRENT AACPS BACKGROUND CHECK ON FILE WITH THE SCHOOL PRIOR TO VOLUNTEERING. 

 

There are two types of AACPS Background Checks:

  1. Commercial Background Check
    • This is required for ALL volunteers at SPMS. Without completing this, anyone 18 and over will not be allowed to volunteer within the building or on SPMS property.
    • Expires 2 years to the date of initial completion and must be renewed.
    • Free for all parents/guardians of AACPS students.
  2. Fingerprinted Background Check
    • This is required for any volunteers working one-on-one with students, or any volunteers attending an overnight field trip. 
    • Never expires, as long as you have a currently enrolled AACPS student.
    • Costs a one-time fee of $63.

  • On the day of your scheduled volunteer time, please bring your photo ID with you and check-in with the front office before proceeding to the destination listed on your signup.
  • If this is your first time volunteering as a fingerprinted volunteer, please also bring a copy of the card provided to you at your appointment.
